Welcome to the Derbyshire butterfly site. This site has been created to illustrate the wide diversity of butterfly species that can be found in the rolling hills of Derbyshire.

Although many of our butterflies are common and widespread, there are several species that are in decline and so this site also aims to increase awareness of their environmental and conservation needs.

The list of species on this site is slowly growing so keep on checking back as it will be updated regularly.

I am now making a seriously concerted effort to complete the foundation of this site - but have been distracted by work and running. Also, i have not had the time to write proper descriptions of the species listed here so i have taken text and illustrations from verious sources to use in the mean time. This will very soon be replaced with my own work. Thanks for your patience. Mark - 14/02/05
