Thymelicus sylvestris - Small Skipper

Thymelicus sylvestris - Small Skipper. 27 - 27mm. In the western parts of its range, its distribution occurs from northern Africa over the whole of Europe and Asia. In the ease, however, it reaches only to Iran. It is one of the most abundant skippers, flying in a single generation from June till August. It can be found in all grassy, relatively dry biotopes abounding in flowers, and also in forest clearings and rides etc. In the mountains it may ascend to 2000m. The caterpillar lives on a variety of grasses, and hibernates.
